AgingJunction Accessible Housing Initiative

AgingJunction intends to work with investors, property owners, community partners, and Brickyard Houses & Home Solutions to identify overlooked or distressed properties and responsibly renovate them into practical, attractive, accessible homes for older adults, people with disabilities, and people who benefit from supportive or sensory-aware design.

The objective is to create housing that supports real independence while building a financially sustainable model capable of producing additional accessible homes.

1. Why housing matters

Most houses were never built for the people who grow old in them. A step at the front door, a narrow bathroom, or a second-floor bedroom can end someone's independence long before their health does.

Housing is where independence is won or lost. That is why it is a pillar of AgingJunction and not an afterthought.

2. Our story

We kept meeting families who had the will to stay home and no way to make the home work. Contractors were not trained in accessibility, funding was confusing, and nobody was documenting what actually worked.

The Housing Initiative is an attempt to fix that one home at a time, honestly and in public, rather than waiting for somebody else to do it. The longer version — construction first, accessibility second, and the problem that kept repeating — is on Our Story.

Design principles

  • Step-free entrance where feasible
  • First-floor living
  • Accessible bathroom
  • Wider circulation routes
  • Safer kitchen layout
  • Improved lighting
  • Reduced fall hazards
  • Mobility-device access
  • Caregiver functionality
  • Adaptable rooms
  • Sensory-aware options
  • Residential appearance and resident-specific finishes

Not every property can support every feature. Final scope depends on structure, code, budget, and resident needs.

How a project moves

Identify Need → Find Property → Due Diligence → Accessibility Design → Acquire Property → Renovate → Rent or Sell → Measure Results → Recycle Capital → Repeat

The initiative may hold selected homes as rentals, sell selected homes responsibly, reinvest proceeds into future projects, evaluate multifamily opportunities, and assess larger flagship properties separately.

Brickyard may provide construction or renovation services under disclosed related-party agreements. Users are not required to hire Brickyard.

7. Partner opportunities

There is more than one way to take part, and most of them are not financial.

8. Project examples

Nothing below is funded, owned, or available. These are the concepts under evaluation, written down so anyone can read them.

Indiana first

Indiana is the intended starting market. AgingJunction and Brickyard have direct experience with accessibility work, home modifications, contracting, waiver-funded projects, assessment concerns, construction planning, and aging-in-place needs.

The pilot should begin with one carefully selected property. If the Indiana model cannot obtain sufficient community, property, funding, or investment support, the initiative may evaluate other communities with demonstrated need and stronger partnership opportunities.

One-home demonstration

AgingJunction is willing to begin with one carefully selected home to document purchase cost, inspection findings, renovation scope, accessibility features, construction cost, timeline, before/after conditions, rental or resale strategy, lessons learned, and resident outcomes (only with proper consent).

Ten-home pilot (future concept)

This concept would require property-by-property approval, defined acquisition standards, construction budgets, contingency planning, legal structure, investor documentation, related-party disclosures, independent accounting, insurance, and performance reporting.

This pilot is not funded or available at this time.

Fort Wayne flagship concept Concept Under Evaluation

Potential uses may include accessible private suites, shared kitchen or dining, laundry, community rooms, caregiver/staff space, training rooms, accessibility demonstration areas, AgingJunction office space, Brickyard support space, and other permitted independence-focused uses.

Any real project requires verification of address, ownership, asking price, zoning, occupancy limits, building condition, environmental conditions, fire/life safety requirements, accessibility scope, insurance, operating model, and capital requirements.

No building is represented as owned, controlled, under contract, approved, or available on this page.
